IGRP (Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) IGRP is a distance-vector protocol developed by Cisco. Because it was developed by Cisco, devices using this protocol must be Cisco. It was developed mainly to eliminate some of the shortcomings in RIPv1 and to have CiscoPods own protocol. It uses distance vector algorithms such as RIP (Routing Information Protocol) and is built by adding a few additions to the features of RIP. IGRP is a classful protocol like RIP. The largest "hop count" value in IGRP is 255, which is a significant improvement over the RIP value of only 15. However, the number of hopes is not the only feature used as a routing metric. Unlike RIP, IGRP uses line delay, bandwidth, reliability and load status as metrics. This gives network administrators greater flexibility. Depending on the nature of the network, the network administrator can use appropriate values as metrics. Routers do not understand the bandwidth value in serial interfaces when calculating metrics, they use the constant value. If no fixed value is given, the default value of 1.5 Mbit is used. The biggest difference between RIP and IGRP is the number called "autonomous system" (AS). In IGRP, routers with the same AS number can communicate. Additionally, you can configure RIP with Cisco Packet Tracer. Features of IGRP AD (Administrative Distance): The number of routes required for the router to reach the neighboring router. The value is 100. If RIP and IGRP are used on a router, the best route selection will be based on the selection of the IGRP protocol. Because the AD value of the RIP is 120. Update Timer: It is the time that update messages are sent. 90 seconds. Invalid Timer: This is the time for a redirect to become invalid. 270 seconds. Hold down Timer: 280 seconds. Flush timer: The length of time routing is deleted from the routing table. 630 seconds. VLSM (Variable Length Subnet Masking) is not supported. The following example introduces the network 160.75.5.17 to the router on a system with AS number 1. RouterA (config)# router igrp 1 RouterA (config-router)# network 160.75.5.17 My Website: https://www.ciscopods.com/
